UBGA’s Statement on the Murder of George Floyd

We mourn the loss of George Floyd who was murdered on May 25, 2020 in broad daylight by the hands of law enforcement. This is not an isolated incident as countless other Black Lives have been taken this way.  The protests that are happening across the nation and globally are a direct response to the historical racism that is embedded in this country from its inception.  Black people in America continue to be deprived of basic freedoms and liberties that our white counterparts take for granted.  This is not only evident in our criminal justice system, but also in our healthcare system, our schools, our neighborhoods and the list goes on and on.

We must demand justice for Mr. Floyd, but we must also further demand radical reform that transforms this deeply unequal system that is so pervasive in this nation.
