UBGA 5th Anniversary Scholarship Golf Classic

(source: African American Golfer's Digest) September 30, 2019 — Harbor Links Golf Course, Port Washington, NY welcomed the United Black Golfers Association (UBGA) for their UBGA 5th Anniversary Scholarship Golf Classic.  The day-long outing satisfied 163 attendees with brunch, golf, lunch, goodie bags, silent auction, raffle, and a golf clinic opportunity for beginners. Guests enjoying the cocktail hour, (L-R) Mrs. Clarke (Tom’s Mother) Davida, Olvia and Vernel. “I would like to acknowledge all of our UBGA members, sponsors and supporters that helped make our 5th Anniversary Scholarship Golf Classic a success,” said Vernel Bennett, President of the member-based organization. Vernel Bennett presents Oliva Clarke, wife of the late Tom Clarke, with Appreciation Award. In a continued commitment to providing monetary support to students, President Bennett announced that on behalf of UBGA the organization has given out 28 scholarship,s totaling $19,000, from 2016-2019 “I would also like to give a special acknowledgment to the eight recipients of our scholarship awards program for their hard work in reaching their goal and winning our scholarship along with the Clark family, DC 37/ Local 372, Aflac, Patrick Jenkins and Associates, and the African American Golfers Digest for their support,” stated President Bennet. From 2016-2019 UBGA has distributed 28 scholarships to High School Seniors, with a total disbursement of $19,000.00 to date. United Black Golfer’s Association Honored with Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award

Bennett) Vernel Bennett, president, and co-founder of the United Black Golfers Association accepted the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award on Saturday, February 16, 2019, from the Fellow Craft Club of Fidelity Lodge number 97 F&AM during its “Past, Present and Future” annual recognition luncheon in New York. Bennet was the recipient of in the “Present” category and said, “It’s great to receive this award and to be recognized—especially when it comes from your own people—it feels very special.” Surrounded by friends and UBGA club members, the award was presented to Bennet at Riccardo’s By The Bridge restaurant in Astoria, Queens (NY).  The presentation marked yet another salutation to UBGA acknowledging the many works of excellence provided by the not-for-profit golf association to the community.  2019 marks the UBGA was incorporated on March 3, 2014, as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation by Bennett (President) and Jacques Leander, Esq. (Vice President).  Their mission and goals for the association is to promote unity, growth, opportunity and enrichment through the game of golf.  The association’s membership consists of both men and women of all skill levels.   UBGA is active in its community with events and hosts an Annual Scholarship Golf Classic fundraiser event.
