2021 – A Year in Review

A year in review, our accomplishments for 2021:
24 new members joined UBGA in 2020
Our membership reaches across the following locations (11): NY, NJ, MO, NC, SC, VA, MD, FL, PA, DE, and Ghana West Africa
Held our Seventh Annual Scholarship Golf Classic at Harbor Links Golf Course, Port Washington NY
Scheduled our Eighth Annual Scholarship Golf Classic at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington NY, for 8/2/2022
From 2016 to 2021, we awarded 44 scholarships to students, with the total cash disbursement of $31,200.00 to date
Awarded eight (8) $800.00 scholarships to the winners of our scholarship program, totaling $6,400.00 for 2021
Allocated $6,400 to our scholarship fund for 8 students at $800.00 each to be awarded in 2022
Held our Holiday Party at Thomasina’s Catering Hall
Scheduled our first winter outing to Florida, 2/28/2022-3/4/2022
We supported the following Organizations (7): (CSA) Council of School Supervisors & Administrators, The Shinnecock Golfers’ Assoc. Scholarship Fund, (CCC) The Christian Cultural Center Golf Classic, The Jamaica YMCA Charity Golf Tournament, JFK Airport Rotary Ladies Golf Outing, 3L Foundation of Queens NY (Omega Psi Phi), Mid-Island Golf Club, Bergen County CASA
Played golf at the following courses (27): North Woodmere, Peninsula, Harbor Links, Harbor Links Exec Course, Kissena, Douglaston, Marine Park, Dyker Beach, Forest Park, Clearview, Bergen Point, Van Courtland Park, Bethpage Page, Brookville Country Club, Noyac Golf Club, Scarsdale Golf Club, Middle Bay, Mill Pond G C, Links at Lighthouse Sounds (MD), Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links (MD) ,Eagle’s Landing (MD), Heartland Golf Park, Windwatch Country Club, Weequadic Park Golf Course (NJ), Indian Island Golf Course, Pine Hollow Country Club, Scotch Hills Country Club (NJ)
Played over 35 rounds of golf this season
Held six (6) free golf clinics for our members and the community
Sixty (60) golfers played with us this season
Upgraded our new website
UBGA, made Ms. Debert Cook, the owner and publisher of the African American Golfers Digest a life time membership in UBGA and also gave her an award
President, Vernel Bennett o Hosted and co-produced an internet radio show, called Black Golfers, Then and Now Show, on the, On Da Block Radio Station, at ODBRS.Com o Had a Zoom interview with the BBC World Sport News about Blacks in golf o Interviewed by the Associated Press-Woods excelled in an all-White sport o Had a Zoom podcast interview with the ALL MEN ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL, about Golfing While Black o African American Golfers Digest, published a story about the podcast we did about Golfing While Black o Invited to address the new golf club/team at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens NY
